Memory Writing Workshops

Reminiscence Writing  -  Take your pen for a walk down memory lane

I am happy to help with organising one-off memory projects or regular memory writing workshops. I can also talk to a group about the Leicester Jewish Voices memory project which I have recently completed. I have outlined the three areas below.

1.  Memory Projects

Memory writing projects are designed for a group of people with a common interest and aim, e.g. to create a book or a website (see workshop outcomes below). Workshop content and format is planned to suit the specific interests and requirements of each group. Any community group with a common interest can take part in a memory writing project. Some examples are:

  • A group who worship together and would like to gather memories of, for example, how their church and its congregation survived the war.
  • A group of residents from a Care Home remembering about times past. This could cover any number of topics, including school, work, leisure time, housework or shopping.
  • Residents of a village recording their memories of village life.
Writing skills You do not need to have any previous writing experience to take part in a memory project. If you have problems writing then memories can be shared and recorded in small group discussions.

Workshop outcomes The finished product could be a display, a poster, a presentation, a typed or printed pamphlet, a website or a book.

2.  Memory
Writing Workshops

Writing alongside other people in a workshop situation can be a most powerful and enjoyable experience. It can unlock creativity and you can find yourself writing in ways that are new and exciting. When you add the magic of memories the results can be fantastic. In a workshop, the writing produced would normally be individual, personal pieces rather than a group outcome.
If you are interested in joining a memory writing workshop in the Leicester, UK, please contact me for details.

3.  Talks

I am happy to talk to groups about memory writing and running memory writing projects.

Using our memory as a resource for writing provides endless possibilities.
I can't always remember what day it is but I can remember when:
  • a horse and cart took the Rag and Bone Man on his rounds
  • and those fogs when you really couldn't see a hand in front of your face
